“We refuse to choose between Russia and Georgia,” writes the English “Economist” paper referring to the statement made by Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan. The paper writes that the deterioration of relations between Georgia and Armenia is like suicide for Armenia. “The Kremlin is increasing its influence in Armenia. Russian companies already own the energy sector of Armenia and are trying to get stronger in other fields,” as stated in the newspaper. According to V. Oskanyan, “we need many things” in order to think about the future damages. Besides that, due to the increasing incomes for oil, Baku feels self-confident and even considers itself strategic, forcing Armenia to get closer to Russia. “America’s interest in the pipelines, which pass through Armenia and tie the Caspian region with the Mediterrenean, means that if another war starts with Azerbaijan, it will spread away from the Caucasus region,” said V. Oskanyan. The “Economist” writes that the resolution of the Karabagh conflict, or even the temporary agreement which would allow both Armenia and Azerbaijan restart normal trade, is almost impossible. There is open-fire on the dividing border line from time to time.
