Very hard to step down from power

As for the territories, Mr. Sahakyan that Armenia will not give territories, furthermore, it will take all its territories back. However, the latter said that the negotiations should be transparent and open to the public. “As for our viewpoint, we think that first of all we should define the status of Karabagh and then negotiate. Only after that everyone will have to make a decision” said the head of the republican faction and added, “We will try to keep close ties with the public and do our best to solve the problem the best way”. The latter assures that the rumors concerning the conflict that are spread in the society are just rumors and nothing more. “They are speaking baseless things in order to fight and attract attention” said Mr. Sahakyan and added that he personally thought that maybe in the nearest future the conflicting parties can reach some positive developments, however he doesn’t think that the conflict can be resolved before 2012. Concerning the opposition Mr. Sahakyan said that they suggested some changes in commissions to provide balance, however they didn’t take any steps that would lead to responsibility in case anything went wrong. The latter thinks that if the political powers criticize each other out of censorship again, there can’t be fair elections since the environment will not be adequate to prevent violations. The latter also thinks that parties should compete taking into consideration their possibilities and bigger parties should win more places than the smaller ones. Galust Sahakyan assures that the Republican Party cares about people more than the other parties. The latter says that this is the reason why they proposed a bill to increase the salaries of high-ranking officials, thus they don’t care whether they will lose votes or not, the most important thing for them is the outcome and the fact that people will benefit from that law. Mr. Sahakyan says that this is done to increase the wealth of people and added that he didn’t like the approach of their partner party (ARF) in that framework.

“The issue is discussed in the government by the coalition parties, but there is no active participation. Nevertheless, as soon as they want to be elected in the parliament they want to cheat on the public”, said Galust Sahakyan without mentioning any certain names. By the way, since 2003, when Galust Sahakyan predicted the outcome of the Georgian parliament, he has been able to foresee what’s going to happen. The latter thinks that the Republican, Prosperous Armenia, NU, NDP, ARF will be elected in the parliament during the upcoming elections. As for “Rule of Law”, Mr. Sahakyan thinks that they are still looking for new formats and their standing is not clear yet. “This is not forecast, but the situation at hand”, said G. Sahakyan. The latter said that during the upcoming elections the oppositional powers will sell their places in the commissions again, which doesn’t help to organize fair and democratic elections. As for the powers that buy those places, Sahakyan thinks that there might be some powers like that, however it is not logical to connect such facts with the republican party. “The society, the government and all the parties are equally responsible for elections” said Galust Sahakyan. Galust Sahakyan says that he doesn’t see any political powers that might come to power after the upcoming elections. As for their relationship with “Prosperous Armenia” party, Galust Sahakyan said that they collaborated and whatever they had to say would be spoken politically. “We are in good relations with all the parties, and we have better relations with “prosperous Armenia” party. We haven’t analyzed that cooperation yet. We will see that as soon as the campaigning period starts. Time will come and we will see” said Galust Sahakyan. Being a representative of the authorities G. Sahakyan confessed that it is very hard to be in the term. It is also difficult due to the fact that it is hard to leave. “In this framework the opposition is very steady”, noted Glaust Sahakyan.

P.S. Since the time when Tigran Torosyan declared the outcome of voting for the “draft law on alienating properties for state needs” it has been said that the relations between Galust Sahakyan and Tigran Torosyan are complicated since G. Sahakyan had worked hard to bring up that bill. Concerning these rumors G. Sahakyan said that they were baseless. “It is a poor attempt to look for failures in my political career and personal relations with my friend” said Galust Sahakyan.
