The Prosecutor’s office is not a stage

During a Q&A session at the General Prosecutor’s Office after the prosecutor’s session, RA General Prosecutor, Aghvan Hovsepyan, denied the rumors claiming that he’s planning to run a campaign during the 2007 parliamentary elections.

“I am unaware of those rumors because I was out of Armenia. In 1990-1995 I was elected deputy of the first parliament of independent Armenia. Meanwhile, I was a special case investigator. At the time it was possible to work both as a prosecutor and a deputy. The current legislation forbids such activity. I will permanently be a prosecutor even if somebody sends me to work as a prosecutor in the Syunik region. I have no intention to work anywhere else. I have been working in the prosecutor’s office ever since I graduated from the university at the age of 20. Perhaps some people dream to see certain changes in my life and show it as reality,” said Hovsepyan.

When mentioning the fact that recently Armenian political parties are trying to ameliorate relationships through the means of the prosecutor’s office (Rule of Law has applied to the Prosecutor’s office to find the ones responsible for ordering black     PR against them, “New Times” party applied to charge Serge Sarkisyan), Hovsepyan said that the “Prosecutor’s office will never become a stage or arena for solving relationships”. “Recently some people are trying to turn the Prosecutor’s office into an arena, where they check certain announcements of state activists or try to fix relations. Or if somebody makes an announcement or two the Prosecutor’s office must discuss whether it is right or wrong by all means. I’d recommend the ones, who make announcements, to put their hand on the Bible before announcing something to know if it’s true or false. Thank God I was able to keep the Prosecutor’s office away from any kind of influence. There are no party cells in our office as required by the law. No one is even indirectly a member of some party. I am not going to respond to all the political announcements. Of course if the appeals or announcements have criminal contents or bring up certain evidence of perpetrated crimes, the Prosecutor’s office will certainly discuss them and make decision. There are people, who wake up in the morning and wonder what appeal they can send to our office. I admit it. One of those people is Rouben Torosyan,” said Hovsepyan.
