Currently, Armenia has something new to talk about. Usually when discussing issues and talking about confidential information, Armenians say, “my sources of information are trustworthy”. This is how all Armenian TV channels try to make Armenian viewers sure that Chirac didn’t apologize.
The problem is not the fact whether he has done that or not. On the one hand, we may get happy about the fact that the French Senate passed a bill penalizing anyone that would deny the fact of the Armenian Genocide; on the other hand, we wonder what it will give Armenia. Fine, let’s say someone in Paris gets penalized for denying the Armenian Genocide-so what? It is logical that after all this, Turkey will start pressuring Armenians living in Turkey. Recently, Charles Aznavur said the following about the bill passed by the French Senate: “That law should generally be applied for all the crimes committed against humanity, otherwise it sounds a little strange. It is great that they have thought about this, however, it seems that they have forgotten about the other Genocides”.
The Turkish-Armenian border is currently closed; however, it is evident that these two countries are trading through the Georgian territory. Furthermore, some people who want to appear nationalistic are wearing Turkish clothes and petitioning people to boycott the Turkish products in the Armenian market. For instance, we can substitute the Turkish sunflowers with the Armenian sunflowers, but we wonder what we have to replace the other products with. Armenian production is in a downfall due to the the currency exchange rate changes. Furthermore, many families can survive due to that trade. What will they do if they don’t have that source of income either? Are their vacancies in the sold factories? In general, the future of Armenia is unclear. The Armenian border with Azerbaijan is closed, the future relations with Iran are not clear since Iran has complicated issues with the West. As for Russia, it has already expressed itself on behalf of Zatulin to treat Georgians badly. If Armenians do that, we will find ourselves in a deadlock and that will put us in a bad situation. Notwithstanding, the Diaspora Armenians are not afraid of that and are ready to support us from abroad. The Armenian high-ranking officials are not afraid either since they can easily escape Armenia in case of any danger. According to our information, a respected French man once said, “I am sorry that they are trying to use the Armenian issue and the Armenian people to reach certain political goals in France”. What the French man means is the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in France because the number of Armenians in France is over a half million and Armenians play a key role when it comes time for elections. Elections are coming up in Armenia too and the authorities are interested in that too.
