Beat and escape

17/10/2006

“I feel really bad. I feel ashamed of being thrown on the ground and asking for help. It is shameful for this country, where a human being is not respected. I feel pity for all the generals that have deserved it or haven’t, for my friends that have been with me; I feel pity that they stay silent when a coward is beating a general that deserves to be beaten. They just beat, beat and escape”, said general Suren Abrahamyan, member of oppositional “Justice” party board, who was beaten by some skinheads in the yard close to their house on Saturday. Taking into account the fact that recently there was a conflict between Suren Abrahamyan and Andranik Margaryan, the leaders of “Republic” party think that it’s highly possible that it might have been organized by Andranik Margaryan. The press department of the government made a statement concerning the press coverage: “The authorities are always criticized, especially by the opposition. During my term, the criticisms have turned into black PR, and in some cases it was even out of the ethical norms.  The critics have been coordinated and targeted directly in pre-election periods. However, I have always looked at that calmly and considered it the behavior of my political opponents and have never been intimidated. I don’t want talk about the person that took this initiative and who is going to use some ideas for their own purposes. However, I hope the press will understand everything. Such things that are targeted against any citizen of Armenia should be condemned and it doesn’t depend on who that person is”.
