“That’s a problem between Turkey and Armenia, and France has nothing to do with it,” said Turkish Prime Minister Rejeb Taib Erdogan concerning the bill of the French parliament penalizing anyone that denies the Armenian Genocide. According to the bill, anyone that denies the Armenian Genocide will be sentenced to 5 years in prison and will have to pay a 45,000 Euro FEE. “If a Turkish Prime Minister or any minister, historian or intellectual, comes to France and says that there hasn’t been genocide, what are you going to do? Are you going to lock that person in jail?” said the Turkish Prime Minister to a group of French businessmen during a meeting in Istanbul. Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Giul announced that France may be excluded from Turkey’s economic projects if it passes a law penalizing anyone that denies the genocide. According to Giul, if the law is approved, France will suffer the consequences because it won’t be able to take part in the economic projects of Turkey, including the construction of the nuclear power plant. It’s worth mentioning that last year, trade between Turkey and France made up 10 billion dollars as a whole.
