Did Chirac go too far?

According to French presses, the three-day official visit of French President Jacques Chirac was “dedicated to the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1917”. “While in Yerevan, Jacques Chirac said things that Armenians, especially French Armenians, hoped to hear him say. During his joint-press conference with Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, Chirac set one principle: “France recognizes the Armenian Genocide,” according to “Le Figaro”, which states that Chirac “went too far” by considering it right for Turkey to “learn from its mistakes” in order to join the European Union.
