Aren’t we in a deadlock?

24/09/2006

Several months ago RA president Robert Kocharyan announced that if the negotiations get into a deadlock Armenia will recognize the independence of Karabakh. Is Armenia going to do that in the nearest future? “You mentioned yourself the phrase “if the negotiations appear in a deadlock”… We don’t think that the current negotiations stage is in deadlock”, replied press officer of the RA foreign affairs ministry, V. Karapetyan in response to our question. We asked him whether the fact that Armenia has announced that if Azerbaijan continues bringing up issues concerning Karabakh in the UN, they will have to continue the negotiations with the participation of Karabakh did not mean that the negotiations have appeared in a deadlock, to which the press officer replied, “It is not clear yet; it will be clear in the future”. According to him, Armenia wants to continue the negotiations. “Armenia will never propose any steps leading to a deadlock”, concluded Mr. Karapetyan.
