We asked the president’s press secretary, Viktor Dallakyan, what the president thought about the incident that happened to editor of “Iravunk” newspaper, Hovhannes Galajyan. “All such crimes connected with journalists should be condemned. I believe the police will do their best to find and punish the criminals. Nevertheless, it has already been three days that there are rumors that the reason for that incident was the recent articles of Galajyan criticizing the authorities. I think that instead of coming to unreasonable conclusions they should wait until the end of the investigations. Of course, the image of a journalist being oppressed by the authorities is very emotional and it is very easy to say that the ones responsible for that crime are the authorities. You should not also forget the fact that it is not the first time that they have criticized the authorities; they have done that when Armenian politics was heated up. I can’t remember any such incidents and cases connected with Galajyan before. I would like to say once again that all the crimes proposed against journalists are condemned. I think the police will find all the answers to all questions, as well as find out whether the incident is connected with his professional activity or not” said Robert Kocharyan’s press secretary, Viktor Soghomonyan.
