In the morning of September 6, editor of “Iravunk” weekly Hovhannes Galajyan was attacked while heading out the door of his house located on Komitas street in Yerevan.
As he was leaving his house at 10 a.m. he was attacked by two shaved-heads, thrown to the ground and was beaten. But as soon as some people approached, the attackers left the scene.
“They attacked me from behind and beat me to the ground. They were two shaved-heads, who were trying to hit me on the head, but I defended myself,” says Hovhannes Galajyan. After they beat him, the attackers ran screaming “Next time you’ll remember Aramo”. H. Galajyan doesn’t understand what that means and thinks that maybe they just mentioned the name Aramo, so that he would try to figure out who that is.
“Perhaps there is a political context to this, maybe they were trying to scare me. Perhaps it was because of the article that I wrote recently about the construction going on in one of the kindergarten playgrounds and how I gave sharp feedback,” says H. Galajyan. He doesn’t think that this was a personal matter and has already called the police. Fortunately, Galajyan hasn’t suffered many physical injuries, but he plans to call a forensic doctor.
