On August 29, Secretary of the National Security Council attaché to the president and defense minister Serge Sargysan welcomed head of the Belgian Senate’s foreign relations and defense committee and Senator Fransua Roelan dyu Vivye. Touching upon the requirements for countries wishing to become members of the European Union, the Senator emphasized the importance of Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide and didn’t accept the destruction of the ancient Armenian monuments in Old Jugha of the Nakhijevan territory. The Belgian Senator also said that Belgium intends on opening an embassy in the Southern Caucasus. In regard to Armenian-Azeri ties, Vivye said that he is worried over Azerbaijan’s military budget, but mentioned the fact that it’s not always that the budget of a country shows how ready its army is.
