As for the rumors regarding their party A. Ashotyan says that there are two reasons for that. According to him, the first reason is the fact that Deputies worry about the future of the Republican party. A. Ashotyan says that there is no reason to worry. He says that this tendency is like “jealousy” in the political field of Armenia. “The second reason is the fact that we are creating a super monopolistic and monster political party. In fact, the problem is deeper. All that is going on is consolidation of the Armenian political field; during many years the political field of Armenia was not consolidated and now we have an opportunity to consolidate it and show the people that there is a consolidated political power now”, says A. Ashotyan. According to him, throughout the years individuals played a key role in the political field. “For instance Serge Sargsyan, during 12-13 years he was a politically strong factor. It is clear that there is positive tendency now and we are creating new standards. These new standards will consolidate the political field of Armenia and will make the competition stronger, thus will leave small and newly established parties out of competition”, says the republican deputy. According to him, this competition will make small parties revise their strategy, find stronger ideological centers, as a result of which during the 2007 parliamentary elections there will be several strong political powers, which will include many of those small ones. According to him, it is impossible to implement an effective policy without consolidating the political field of Armenia. “The people who say there is political crisis in Armenia and connect this crisis with our board meeting and our activities are worried about themselves more than about the political field, because they understand that the party being created and being consolidated now will limit their opportunities and will not leave a place for them to compete”, says the republican MP and assures that their party has not joined anyone, it is just enlarging its institutional capacity by recruiting politicians headed by Serge Sragsyan. “Currently the “Republican” party has a great opportunity to become a classic European liberal party due to the huge number of its oligarch and businessman representatives”, said A. Ashotyan. As for the 2007 parliamentary elections, A. Ashotyan believes that their party will get 35-40% of votes. But A. Ashotayn says that it is his belief and opinion only.
Besides that, A. Ashotyan says that their party is going to be a very original political party in the political field of Armenia because its program already contains some provisions stating the name of God. “Our by-laws write the word “God” twice”, said the republican MP. He spoke about “Prosperous Armenia” party as well. According to the MP, they are implementing a political marketing policy with purpose of advertising the party’s “brand”.
A. Ashotyan compared the policy of the mentioned party with companies that attach posters on streets with the word “Soon” on them. “In the framework of their political marketing it seems that they are doing PR”, says A. Ashotyan and adds that people only know Gagik Tsarukyan from that party. “I mean that it doesn’t have its political “card” yet, i.e. there are no other political figures in their party besides G. Tsarukyan. Their team has not appeared yet. I mean they are still saying “soon”, i.e. they say that the “Prosperous Armenia” will come to the political field soon, “coming soon”, etc.” says the republican MP. A. Ashotyan said that once, when Margaret Thatcher was asked when she was going to resign, she said the following, “I will stay in my position until I don’t get tired, but I will never get tired as long as England still needs me”. A. Ashotyan said the same thing concerning their party too and added that their party would be active as long as Armenia needs a political power such as the “Republican” party.
