Recently RA defense minister Serge Sargsyan said that it’s quite possible that the president may remove him from the position of defense minister, however he would not resign just because he joined the Republican party. After all, Kocharyan had given his consent. “I think that if it happens either the president or his press secretary will inform people about that. Besides that, it is absurd to take steps that contradict the approach of the commander-in-chief of the Armenian army”, said Serge Sargsyan. Serge Sargsyan says that he can’t say anything concerning participating in the presidential elections because he has not thought about that yet. “I can honestly say that I will make my final decision only after the 2007 parliamentary elections. I can assure everyone that I have never intended on getting positions. All my friends know that”, announced Serge Sargsyan. He says that he has not discussed with his party colleagues how many votes they may get and whether he can be nominated for the president’s position or not.
“But personally I have considered the fact that it’s normal if the Republican party gets 21-22% of votes during the parliamentary elections. If it gets 28%, it will be good. But if it manages to get over 28% of votes, it will be excellent”, said Serj Sargsyan.
Serge Sargsyan said to “Azatutyun” radio station that most Armenians trust the Armenian armed forces; “According to the survey of “Gelapi”, 80% of citizens trust the army”.
