“We haven’t trusted them for a while now”

Several days ago criminals tried to fire the office of the mentioned newspaper. They sprayed gas on the windows of the chief editor, Shogher Matevosyan, and burnt it. The fire didn’t reach the editorial office due to the fact that the windows had bars and they had two layers. During our conversation with Shogher Matevosyan, she said that they hadn’t called the police because what the presses write is enough for them to take action. “We haven’t trusted them for a while now and that’s why we don’t ask them whether they have found new evidence or not”, said the editor about Armenian police. According to her, the problem is not whether the police are passive or not, but the fact that the number of such cases has gone up a lot. According to her, if it goes at this rate, criminals will attack people too. “People who hold their positions by chance are not able to think logically and analyze the situation”, said the editor and added, “Тhey are trying to solve their problems the way they do on the streets and in their neighborhood”. Currently, the authorities are trying to liquidate the Mass Media companies not under their control, just like they did with “A1+” company. The latter was really independent before the 2003 elections. This is the reason why they are organizing such a “demarche” on the threshold of the elections.
