08/07/2006 A. GALOYAN

On June 30, the Georgian “Southern Caucasus Peaceful Development” union made an announcement in defense of chief editor of “Yerevan-Time” newspaper Aram Babajanyan.

“There are many honest and decisive journalists who risk their life, neglect the persecutions and threats and try to get us readers the right information no matter what. Arman Babajanyan is one of those journalists. What happened to Arman Babajanyan is not just another blow to progressive mass media representatives. It’s a blow to their expression of opinions and pretentions, to the people who oppose to any kind of negative judgments. The “Southern Caucasus Peaceful Development” union wishes to help the newspaper staff, all Armenian journalists, followers of the principles of creating a democratic state, who are ready to react to what happened. We hope that our colleague will soon be released,” says union representative Nugzar Gogorishvili in his speech.

Representative of the “Re” studio Mumuka Kuparadze and Emanuel Schteinberg from the “World Democracy and Development Caucasian Institute” said the following:

“We are with you. Release Arman Babjanyan.”

“We condemn the arrest of chief editor of “Yerevan-Time” newspaper Arman Babajanyan. We consider it a persecution and demand him to be released quickly. We would also like to say that we are on the newspaper staff’s side,” said twenty Armenian residents of Philadelphia, U.S.A.
