Hoagland refrained from using the word “Genocide”

In the evening of June 28, while the U.S. Senate was holding hearings on appointing Richard Hoagland as Ambassador to Armenia, Armenian Americans organized the “Yellow Ribbon” demonstration in the Republic Square of Yerevan as a sign of protest to the decision of the US Department of State to call Ambassador John Evans back for using the word “Genocide”. Hoagland was asked many questions in the Senate, but he refrained from using the word “genocide”. Instead, he said that they were cruel events. Armenian Americans organized a demonstration there as well.
