“Karabagh hasn’t changed and never will change its decision. No matter what they say, we will never change our minds because it has been confirmed,” said President of Nagorno Karabagh Arkadi Ghukasyan during the ceremonial session after the 13th anniversary celebration of the liberation of Martakert.
In response to the question as to if it’s really possible to see Karabagh be a part of the conflict negotiations after OSCE Minsk Group co-chairman Matthew Bryza revealed the secrets of the negotiations, Ghukasyan said:
“I don’t think that that would be realistic right now and even in the years to come because we all see Azerbaijan’s decision and destructive approaches. I don’t believe that Azerbaijan is ready to negotiate with Karabagh. People get the wrong impression that Karabagh needs that. We need that for the process. I don’t think that the negotiations end in itself for Karabagh,. Of course, I would like for that to happen, but not for Karabagh. This is very important. “
The great powers of the world don’t hide the fact that they are truly interested in Azerbaijani oil and even Azerbaijan says that oil sales will be directed towards strengthening the Azerbaijani army and the restart of a war in case of need.
“What role can Azerbaijani oil play in the Karabagh conflict resolution? I don’t believe that conflicts are resolved by determining how rich or how poor a country is. If you recall, back in 1991-1992, Karabagh had fewer resources than Azerbaijan and we won the war. I really don’t think that Azerbaijan is being realistic by directing the money received from oil sales towards strengthening its army and don’t consider it a solution to the problem. I predict that the Azerbaijani don’t want a war and Karabagh doesn’t either. In general, there is no country that wants to resolve a conflict through war. It’s simply ridiculous to hear the Azerbaijani government making such announcements because the ones who make those kinds of announcements didn’t defend their homeland back in 1992-1994 and kept their children away from war. Now the same people are talking about war. It would be nice if the people of Azerbaijan ask the president and the authorities where they were back in 1992-1994. I think we have nothing to fear. The Karabagh army is ready to defend the homeland and its borders. The international community must condemn the people making those kinds of announcements, but unfortunately it isn’t doing that and I don’t really understand that. I hope that will happen.”
