Recently the mass media published many articles on the cease of imports of mineral waters from Georgia to Russia, just like the import of wine products. Russia may set an embargo on Georgian mineral water import, which according to the prime minister of Georgia “is a political sanction”. The well-known Georgian “Borjomi” water has a high demand in the Russian market and after ceasing the import Russia will need substitutes of that product. Armenian producers are encouraged by these rumors. Most of them hope to enter the Russian market and sell large amounts of water. The largest producer in this market in Armenia, “Jermuk Group”, has good expectations. We were informed about this from the deputy head of this company, Edgar Ghazaryan. But he says that “Borjomi” is also produced illegally in Russia and by ceasing the import they may sell more fake products instead of importing other substitutes. Therefore, it’s too soon to get all encouraged, when it is not even clear what kind of substitutes Russia may import.
