“Safarov’s head isn’t worth it”

This initiative was passed by the city council of Yerevan, consisting of the 12 communities of Yerevan. A couple of days ago, the school was renamed the No.94 school named after Gurgen Margaryan of the Yerevan municipality. In fact, a month ago, with the decision made by the alderman council of the Ajapnyak community, the No. 197 school was named after Gurgen Margaryan. Head of the Ajapnyak community Artsrun Khachatryan was present at the event. Khachatryan used to live near that school.

-Did you know that Gurgen’s parents and brother live in a wooden shack in the Malatia community and don’t have much income?”
“Yes, I know. We have helped them and will continue to help them. The quarter-municipality helped Gurgen’s family with 1 million AMD (2,000 dollars) after Gurgen’s death. The family has received help from the quarter-municipality and the Ministry of Defense. Currently, we are constructing a park, which is going to be funded by the quarter-municipality. If they ask us for financial aid, we are ready to help them. We simply can’t solve the communal problems because we don’t have enough money. That’s why we are not building a house.

-So, you are waiting for them to ask you for help so you can help them? Don’t you realize that the parents are suffering the loss of their child and they are not able to do that now?

-But don’t you think that if we help them now, they will feel offended? We are ready to lend a helping hand and they will like having relations with us because we are more than a quarter-municipality for them; we are neighbors.

While this conversation was going on, I took a survey and found out that nobody even knew who Gurgen Margaryan was, what had happened to him, why they were naming a school or kindergarten after him. A.Khachatryan, who is the leader of the Armenian Progressive party, said the following about the comment made by Tigran Urikhanyan when he said that he will give 120,000 dollars to the person who kills Safarov:

“I am sure that killing Safarov will not solve anything. Not everything should be announced out loud. I don’t think that that is moral; after all, his head isn’t worth anything. I don’t accept money, but one thing is for sure: an Armenian has to kill Safarov. We can find other ways if there is no fair trial. I knew Gurgen. He was a great human being.”
