The U.S. State Department’s annual report on the international strategy of the fight against drugs includes a section about Armenia, where it is clearly stated that corruption remains to be the main issue in Armenia.
“Though the government worked out and adopted a program of strategic struggle against drugs, anyhow, there isn’t enough political will and attempts to implement that program”, states the report.
Also stated in the report is the fact that Armenian high ranked officials are still involved in drug business. It would seem absurd to talk about the negative results of this, but let’s mention one. We know that the project coordinator of the “Millennium challenges” American corporation sent a letter to the RA president, where he wrote about the importance of effective and democratic management and said that if Armenia doesn’t develop in this field, it may not get the money expected from the mentioned program. Besides that, this announcement will also encourage the Azerbaijani side to spread the propaganda that Karabakh has become a transit land for drug sales.
