Yesterday, during the National Assembly and government officials
question and answer session, President of Damkus Aram G. Sargsyan made
the following comment to Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanyan: “Artsakh is
in an uneasy situation. We lost the battle of propaganda, and today
Azerbaijan is benefiting from that. Aliev claims that Artsakh will not
be independent, and on the other hand, agrees to allocate bases in the
areas controlled by the Armenian armed forces. Isn’t Armenia the least
bit worried?” Vartan Oskanyan sees nothing uneasy about it; moreover,
he considers the situation “fairly good” and sees progress. Oskanyan
suggested not paying attention to what Aliev has to say, but rather
having our own opinion. In this process, if anything is to be given up,
then we have to give it. After all, Karabagh belongs to us. But we keep
on saying that we will not give up Karabagh, it is an independent
republic and that it will never be a part of Azerbaijan.” Oskanyan
considered the government’s opinion as a whole, the quintessential
process and the opinions of society on an international level. Aram
Sargsyan asked the Foreign Minister of Affairs to state the name of the
country that accepts Azerbaijan’s totalitarian rule over the
territories excluding Karabagh. The response was the following: “As of
today, the world considers solving the Karabagh conflict out of the
framework of Azerbaijan. But we must not have high expectations that
the world will announce that publicly or the opposite.” Deputy Sargsyan
suggested that the National Assembly organize closed parliamentary
discussions and come up with a final resolution. He also suggested that
the Republic of Armenia officially announce that it recognizes the
independence of Nagorno Karabagh. Foreign Minister of Affairs Vartan
Oskanyan considered that a “healthy suggestion”.
