On Tuesday at the National Assembly, the opposition called on all the
political parties and NGOs to participate in the “No to Terrorism”
meeting taking place on October 26 at the Azatutyan Hraparak(Freedom
Square). “168 hours” weekly asked leader of the Hayastan Hanrapetakan
(Armenian Republican) grouping Galust Sahakyan if they are accepting
the invitation to participate in the meeting. In response to this, he
said: “If the mass meeting were to take place a month ago or a couple
of months ago, then we would surely participate.” “168 hours” weekly
pointed out that that day was just one day before the October 27, 1999
killings. Mr. Sahakyan contradicted this by saying that “October 26-27
are the days known to us all as days of the tragic events and we can
not connect that with anything else.” We were forced to recall that the
mass meeting’s slogan is “No To Terrorism”. Mr. Sahakyan only said the
slogan is more than we can handle, more than any terrorism.
