Fight against illegal weapons

11/02/2006

The heads of the RA police board departments took part in this meeting, as well as the head of the police board of Karabakh, Armen Isagulyan. The RA general prosecutor was there, who according to our information said that he was dissatisfied with the work of the corresponding departments investigating and preventing crime committed by teenagers. The general prosecutor informed the participants that they registered 854 cases of crimes committed by 573 teenagers during the first half of the years of 2004-2005. 220 out of these 573 teenagers are 14-15 years old, 172 out of them are school children and the rest are students. According to our information the RA police board head was disappointed in the work of some heads of passport and visa control departments (Kentron, Shengavit, Mashtots, Arabkir, Erebuni and Nubarashen communities of Yerevan, as well as Gyumri, Artashat, Vanadzor, Hrazdan, Ararat and Sisian marzes of Armenia). According to him they have prepared some documents related to some heads of the relevant departments and given to one of the police departments to investigate, and some cases that have already been investigated have been sent to the general prosecutor’s office. According to him some citizens had illegal passports and illegally passed the border of Armenia. In most cases they have given illegal passports to teenagers who still haven’t served in the army to leave Armenia with the purpose of not serving in the army. In 2005 there have been 38 cases when these bodies replaced the photos on passports and gave illegal passports to people. Now the RA police and security boards are investigating all these cases. Some employees of passport departments have been punished by the RA police chief.

According to our sources the police chief was mostly disappointed in the work of passport departments of Nor Nork and Arabkir communities of Yerevan.

The RA police board chief has ordered the corresponding departments to start serious work against illegal weapons and as well as investigate the closed cases of the past years.

As informed during the meeting, in 2005 the police investigated and found 85 % of criminal cases in Armenia and they found 1936 criminals under investigation.
