As all fairy tales, this fairy tale also tells a story which is not about something that has existed or exists. The protagonists, the events and even the country have not existed and couldn’t have existed because something like this could just not happen. And if the reader compares himself to one of the protagonists while reading this, gets offended and decides to sue me for trying to play with his reputation, I repeat that the protagonists, events and the country have nothing to do with reality. This is just a fair-y-tale.
Once upon a time, there was a country in one of the far corners of the world. Since the people living in that country did not know about any other countries, they also didn’t know that there are rich, prosperous, beautiful countries in the world. Due to the fact that they were not too smart, these people started to talk about their country as the most mountainous because they had not seen any higher mountains, as the country with the most abundant water-they didn’t know how large the world was-and for some reason they considered their country as heaven. Basically, the people living in this country were miserable although they didn’t know that they were living miserable lives. This country had always been under the influence of great powers. There was a time when the citizens of the country actually asked the great powers to rule the country because they believed that they couldn’t do it on their own; there was another time that the foreigner came to rule. One way or another, the country overcame all the difficulties and survived. It made it to the glorious time when a nation is no longer under the control of the great power. The people decided to liberate the country and, just like in fairy tales, it made a decision and went after it. At first, of course, blood was shed and there were many victims. The strong ones went to war and got killed, but they liberated their country, which had been under the control of foreign powers for over a thousand years.
It later turned out that the deceased were all brave, honest and proud people. As for the scoundrels, since they exist in each country, did not participate in the war and had nothing to do with the liberation. These people did not believe in victory and some were even on the enemy’s side-secretly and out in the open. They used to say to the enemy that their country couldn’t survive without the control of a foreign power and that being under the control of the given foreign power was like defense. But as soon as they saw that the war was over and the country had come out victorious with the flag, they moved aside and made way for the heroes who had gone out to liberate the country.
It seemed as though the country was living its glorious times and it was moving towards a bright future. But things did not go as planned. The scoundrels slowly yet surely came to their senses and realized that changes are final and they tried their best to make it to the top. They started to come up with fake biographies of themselves. They started to tell myths of how they fought for liberation; they made themselves heroes and got closer to being called authorities by playing mind games with the people.
The Commander-in-Chief of the country starting boasting himself and forgot about his friends that had fought in the war. He started surrounding himself with people who loved luxury and appointed officials not for serving the people, but rather for praising and serving him. The former thieves became officials and they passed the laws in the army corresponding to the laws for thieves in jail. The young and naïve soldiers thought that that was the way it should be and started solving everything by violence. The officials had praised the commander-in-chief so much that he felt like a God and could not make compromises.
The country’s Security Council was serving the enemy country from which the country had just freed itself. The glorious fighter who had used such tactics in war that amazed the enemy and was adored by the people, the fighter who was assigned to go and change the system, only changed the name of the structure, appointed people who had nothing to do with security and started to follow their rules. As a result, he left that behind and ceded to the enemy country to be an inspector.
The leader of the country didn’t even change the General Judge and Prosecutor. The former servants were appointed judge and prosecutor and the authorities thought that they would realize the reality of it all and serve the people who are paying them. But they didn’t consider themselves part of the country. They hated the country, were talking in the enemy’s language and were only involved in bribery and bringing up actions against people. They enjoyed having the chance to bring up actions against the soldier that had taken the weapon and fought against the enemy and remained alive. Thus, there was an increase in bribery, the punishment methods and each person had a feeling about his or her case.
This was the situation in almost all fields. The country’s Prime Minister, who had not fought in the war, loved to say a long, insignificant speech to the people using foreign terms after appointing his relatives as officials and eating with them. He did not understand that the people don’t want money for bread, but respect and that they would withstand all the difficulties. None of the authorities understood this last one and that is why when the Commander-in-Chief’s intimate friends hurt him and the leader of the country resigned from his position and became a monk in a monastery far away, nobody regretted what they had done.
The first chapter of the country’s history ends here. Everyone calls this chapter the Heroic Era because it was during that time when, despite everything else, there were many people doing heroic things. The next chapter is called the Irresistible period.
The Commander-in-Chief’s intimate friends who had betrayed him came to power and became commander-in-chief, ministers and police officers. The biggest problem they faced was the past. They couldn’t remember their past and learn from their mistakes now that they were officials. In this small country, it was impossible to keep the years spent in jail for theft, the number of people that had been robbed, the types of narcotics used and the cases of rape a secret. After thinking for a long time, they decided that if they can’t hide the past, then they could turn the errors committed in the past as a standard for living and get rid of all people who were honest, thought about themselves and went along with moral ethics. They needed people who were ready for everything; people with no principles. According to them, as soon as they would have people who would not go against them, then there would be no condemnations. Then they started to appoint new officials.
One of the ministers was well-known for having business branches all over the world; a minister who sold low quality products-factory products- in all his stores and did his best to make sure that nobody sold factory products in the market.
Another minister was an intriguer and a scoundrel. This minister enjoyed gossiping and making people go against each other. There is an event from his university years which characterizes him best. At the time, he was jealous of one of his studious and promising classmates whom everyone saw as a future scientist. He couldn’t destroy him with small gossip. So, one day, the minister, who was a student back then, put the wallet that he had stolen from someone else in the future scientist’s backpack. Eventually, the wallet was found and the promising scientist obviously couldn’t stay at the university much longer and was expelled. Later, the same minister was following up on that boy while he was working at a construction site. In his mind, he thought of another way to hurt him. After becoming a minister, all his friends were calling him a scoundrel. His new friends still had to get to know him better before calling him a scoundrel.
The next minister was a minister with no principles and did just what the boss said. He knew how to be afraid of the stronger one and pressure one who was weaker than him. He knew that he had to follow the stronger one’s orders and demand the weak. He is not a scoundrel, but rather an imitation of a scoundrel.
The former gambler and narcotic seller was appointed minister and he was involved in coordinating the work of drug stores, casinos and illegal whorehouses. He was also responsible for providing the ministers with something to take their minds off of work.
The active member of a secret terrorist organization, a successful killer and one known for appointing anyone as an official was appointed to coordinate the social security system.
The list goes on…people got appointed despite the position and type of work.
As for the people, they were impatiently waiting for the end. The people had lived for centuries and knew that there is an end to everything; eventually, this would end too. That’s exactly what happened. Of course, the Irresistible Period lasted a long time and many people left the country with no hope for a better life, but one sweet day everything changed. A group of young people went out to the square with the heroic spirit in order to instill hope in the people. They knew that they were not going to achieve anything, but they needed to sacrifice themselves. Everyone was amazed to see how the authorities and the Commander-in-Chief started to surrender just before the battle had begun. They thought that the national struggle had begun; the one that they had heard being talked about all around. Since all of them were afraid and were not ready to fight, they started to surrender because they had the fear of losing all they had. Among the surrenders, the one that was in the center of everybody’s attention was the big, fat minister who had always betrayed his friends during his prime and had been appointed minister during the Irresistible Period. He informed the rebels that he was ready to testify in front of the people.
In a word, as in all fairy tales, this fairly tale also had a happy ending and the country’s history started a new chapter-the Dignified Period.
There are still people living in that country who still believe that their country is a piece of heaven.
