Saws found in the prison of Nubarashen

04/02/2006

Something sensational happened in the Nubarashen prison at the end of last year. Police officers found about 60 saws in # 88 room of Nubarashen prison, which were hidden behind the toilet. This room is for prisoners sentenced to life. Besides the saws, they also found ropes, barbed wires, cement and alcohol. According to a specialist, these things were enough to escape out of the prison. Besides that they could give the saws to other prisoners with the help of the ropes. The Ministry of Justice approved this too. According to the ministry’s press-secretary Ara Saghatelyan, the prisoners of this room, Artak Alekyan, Hakob Khachatryan and Aram Petrosyan refused to give any explanations regarding this, thus, when police officers were trying to take these things out of their room they were trying to stop them. As a result of this police officers attacked them to make them calm down. The corresponding bodies have instituted legal proceedings.

By the way, according to our sources, last year police officers found saws, ropes and cell phones in the same room. Later it turned out that these prisoners had already cut some metallic parts of the cell. Last year the police brought a case against these prisoners for trying to escape the prison (Article 35 and 355). Besides that, the first instance court of Erebuni and Nubarashen communities brought a case against these prisoners, according to which they got two more years of imprisonment.
