Armenia is not trusted

The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs has starting thanking the U.S.A. on behalf of the Armenian people and government starting on September 22. They were thanking the U.S. for the support shown to the Armenian people. This referred to “Challenges of Millennium Corporation” (CMC). The CMC has decided to provide Armenia with $235.65 million dollars in order to overcome poverty in rural areas and strengthen economic development. However, it is too soon to be grateful. According to our reliable sources, this project will not be implemented indefinitely. No matter how professionally the government denies this fact, it is obvious that the U.S. does not trust Armenia. Why?

On January 18, the general executive director of the CMC John Danilovich sent a letter to Robert Kocharyan, in which he wrote, “As I mentioned in my letter written on December 16, the board of directors of the CMC has refrained from making a decision about providing the money due to the concerns that they have about the Constitutional referendum. These violations will most probably exclude Armenia from participating in the CMC program. And we particularly mean the ‘Rule Justly’ section.” Danilovich has mentioned the contents of his letter sent to Oskanyan, “My letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs gives more details about the violations and what should be done by the RA government to remain loyal to the principles of democracy. It is possible that he admits that the referendum caused numerous doubts and violations, and I am glad that your government is ready to examine the electoral violations and clarify the cases of violence towards journalists.” Danilovich hopes that Oskanyan’s letter will be published and he will have enough evidence to persuade the CMC board to keep cooperating within the framework of the program. “Nevertheless, we are going to follow this process and will mainly focus on the initiatives of your government to improve this section of ‘Rule Justly’. As you know, in case of violations of those standards, we may stop this program even in the middle of the process,” reads the letter.

The abovementioned letter is on the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs website only in English. We were informed by the Ministry that the letter must be translated into Armenian. Based on those letters we may assume that Armenia will not receive any financial aid from the CMC during this “millennium” let’s remember, that the CMC is a U.S. state entity which cooperates with the most undeveloped countries of the world.

The U.S. Ambassador John Evans also met with Kocharyan on January 17. Both sides have most probably discussed the principle of cooperation with the CMC.
