Without Any Georgians

24/07/2005

The CIS inter-parliamentary defense and security congress sessions took
place yesterday in Yerevan. Despite the preliminary arrangements, the
delegations of Azerbaijan and Georgia were the only ones not
participating. The absence of Azerbaijan’s delegation is somewhat
acceptable, but what about Georgia’s delegation? “Georgia’s deputies
have claimed that due to the recent parliamentary elections they have
not been able to form a delegation. At the present, I can not say how
much of that is true,” said Vice President of the National Assembly
Vahan Hovhannesyan. However, another reason for Georgia not taking part
in the session can by closely connected with the country’s indirect
support for Azerbaijan’s boycott on Armenia. In addition to his
comments, Vahan Hovhannesyan also said something which should be drawn
attention to. As he reflected upon the closing of the “ Verin-Lars”
Georgian-Russian” border, Mr. Hovhannesyan believes that communication
between the two countries is dangerous not only because of terrorism,
but also because of the uncalculated methods used for fighting against
it.
