The European Union is Getting Closer

24/07/2005

The European Union Committee publicly announced yesterday its decision
regarding Turkey’s admission into the European Union. The decision is
in favor of all. The committee called on all European Union countries
to lead negotiations with Turkey regarding this issue. Before the
committee’s speech, Prime Minister of Turkey Erdoghan made a long
speech. According to experts, despite the decision of the committee,
Turkey’s admission into the European Union will be possible only in
2015. The reason for this is that Turkey still has many problems to
solve concerning human rights, democracy, corruption, as well as the
rights of ethnic minorities living in Turkey.

What’s notable is the fact that Vice President of the National Assembly
of the RA Tigran Torosyan, who is currently in Strasburg and with whom
one of our reporters talked to on the phone last night, said that
nothing has taken place and that he knows nothing about it. Meanwhile,
according to news agencies, Armenian delegation representatives
Shavarsh Kocharyan and Armen Kostanyan have signed up to discuss some
questions with Erdoghan, but they are still waiting in line.
