Yuschenko in Iraq

15/01/2006

Yesterday the president of Ukraine Viktor Youschenko paid an unexpected visit to Iraq, where he met with the Ukrainian soldiers serving in the military coalition fighting against terror. According to “Associate Press” the purpose of this visit was connected with the processes to remove the Ukrainian troop consisting of 867 soldiers to Ukraine, who had to return to Ukraine until December 30, 2005. It is worth to mention that the decision to take these troops out of Iraq was made by the ex president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma. In August almost half of the 1600 Ukrainian soldiers were removed from Iraq, and the other half were concentrated in El-Kut city located in the Southern territory of Iraq.
