– You say that the opposition has never been so strong, but it doesn’t seem to be so. ADP has refused to take part in rallies and is going to be a part of “Armenia” committee, which is going to be found soon. How can you explain these contradictions?
– There are no contradictions in our announcements. When making these announcements we meant the fact that several parties that hadn’t been advocating each other got together. As well as we mean NU, which took part neither in November 25 rally nor in the further ones. The oppositional unity consisted in only one thing: in boycotting the referendum. In this connection no one can say that opposition is not united. The opposition has not been united so much before. Before the referendum we had announced that both the coalition and were advocating democracy and we suggested them to create equal conditions both for us and for them to campaign and organize the referendum. And we also said that if “yes” was brought up in this case, we would make some conclusions, but otherwise they were not the ones to speak about democracy by crating a false imitation for other countries and making fraud here. Most of the oppositional powers were sure that not depending on anything the authorities would falsify the referendum, this is the reason we decided to boycott and leave all the space for them. We told them that the court, police and prosecutor’s bodies were under their umbrella and if they couldn’t provide equal conditions during the campaign period, they had to provide equal conditions during the referendum process. This was a strong and serious tactical step, which made the authorities fall into confusion. And this was the reason that no referendum or elections in any CIS countries had been undermined so much. But I’ve never heard NU to announce what they would do in case the referendum is violated and falsified. It is not enough only to make announcements. But in this connection the approaches of different oppositional parties differ from each other. It is not right to cease the revolution activities sooner then we should. It is pity that there are politicians that want to do so. But generally it is impossible to cease this kind of activities, because these activities don’t depend only on one reason. As for the referendum- it is one more reason for revolution. People have not forgotten the announcements of these authorities regarding the deal with “Armentel”, stating that it is success, and now they struggle against it themselves. They haven’t forgotten how the judgment of October 27 was organized like a play. And people think that the two elections of 2003, the developments of April 12 and the referendum are high treason on their part. And we must struggle against them by using all available political methods, by making rallies, strikes and by holding talks with other countries. We can’t win alone.
– Don’t you think the announcement of Stepan Demirchyan regarding their strong decision to continue struggling and then refusing to take part in coming rallies is treason too?
– No, I’ll never think that Stepan Demirchayn may be a betrayer. ADP started their activities in 2003 by making political decisions. And people are to decide what kind of influence made their decisions on their positions in the political field. I really think that democracy is very important, and I don’t think it is good of oppositionists to think that they shouldn’t take part in rallies in case there are few people. I am a person that is not scared of whether there are few people or not. I can make my speeches for ten, hundreds and thousands of people, it is the same for me. But if they come to a conclusion on the base of their own opinion, I don’t blame them for this. I am sure that the only way for Armenia to go out of this situation is to make a revolution. And this revolution must be done in all fields. Even in theatres, where there are a lot of actors that are untalented. Today a lot of processes are going on that make structural changes both in the governmental and oppositional fields, and I am sure that those powers that will be able to make rapid changes and inform people about their development plans sooner than the others, they will win.
– It is spoken that whoever is included in the EU delegation from Armenia and leaves for Strasburg, change their political approach in some time. Recently oppositionists blamed Shavarsh Kocharyan in this kind of behavior and for not taking part in rallies. Does this concern also Stepan Demirchyan? Because as soon as he got this position he refused to take part in rallies.
– I think some politicians try also win political dividends from outside. But I think first of all it is better to win dividends in the domestic political field, then in the international one. But I don’t think there is anything strange if ADP wants to get foreign political dividends with the head of their leader. As for Kocharyan, I can’t say anything concerning whether he worked well there or not, because I am not aware of our delegation works there. But I am not the only person to argue that his opinion both on the referendum and on the lists comply with the opinion of the governmental pyramid. Maybe this is the reason that people try to find some ides of oppositionists that comply with the governmental ideas. But I am not surprised to learn this kind of ideas, because I have heard these ideas a lot and I already have the answer. There is no difference for me whether Shavarsh Kocharyan is the person to answer to questions or Garnik Isagulyan.
– Don’t you think that both the ideas of the opposition and the ideas of the government regarding ceasing rallies comply with each other?
– I think ADP is trying to adopt a new strategy to keep their position in the EU and get prepared for the elections in 2007. This is what I think regarding the approaches of ADP and NU. “Republic” doesn’t agree with them. The referendum shows that it is impossible to change anything with on the base of elections and evolution. Besides that if you boycotted the referendum and asked your members drop their membership, you have to do the same in 2007 too. This means that you must do everything so not to let the governmental power be the ruling power de facto.
– May “Republic” hold discussion on dropping their membership in the alliance?
– Of course, I haven’t ever excluded anything, everything is possible. The time and developments will show what to do. I don’t think there is any other way of coming out of this situation than a revolution, and I can debate with anyone. There can’t be evolutional development in Armenia ever, also because I don’t believe in Darwin. Only revolution can lead us out of this situation. Now nonpartisan politicians are active too, and if they see that after the change of the government there will be some changes of the ruling powers and parties, they will not take part in these developments. This is the reason for founding a commission. All citizens must imagine them living in our future Armenia.
– Aren’t you afraid that the other oppositional powers may leave the opposition and you will be the only one to advocate the idea of making revolution?
– There is a global issue, which is more important than revolution and which is the sense given to them by God. I am sure that in a couple of years they all will try to explain to their children why they didn’t take any steps and will say that the situation was like that so they were scared to do anything. I am ready to give everything I have for the purpose to be a free person and say everything I think so not to justify myself later. There have been this kind of bad times in all countries. So I am not afraid of being alone and I am sure I will never be alone. Whatever happens there always will be a group of people who will hope for their good future. And I really believe the time for revolution is coming, and is not right to cease it. It is wrong to make calculations and other predictions and say it will not be a success. Those people who are honest, fair and speak about their ideas in a high voice even if lose, they will be the winners. They can say that our calculations and predictions are right, but no one can say that “Republic” “is sold for money” or doesn’t struggle. This is the most important goal we have reached.
