Our football players played brilliantly
October 15, 2011
“The whole nation was following the game of Armenian national team with the greatest attention. The national consolidation and great attention are the most valuable achievements irrespective of the results of the game. I don’t want to give evaluation to the outcome of the game, but I must say that our football players played brilliantly” stated RA President Serzh Sargsyan during the annual award in the sphere of IT technologies referring to the football match Armenia vs. Ireland and added: “Nobody could even dream about such a success two or three years ago. Professionals will always find their way, but it requires much effort, patience, persistence and purposefulness. I am sure we possess those features as a united entity, as Armenian nation. I am sure the awards you were given today may prove it the best, since you earned it due to honest and persistent work”.... [full story]

End of moral victories
October 11, 2011
Yesterday in the Republican Stadium of Yerevan in the 9th round of Group B of Euro 2012 the team of Armenia beat the Macedonian soccer team with the score of 4-1 and granted a real victory and holiday not only to soccer fans but also the Armenian people. In other cases these are merely lofty words but yesterday Yerevan was really enjoying a holiday. People were really rejoicing. Hours after the game the active fans of Armenia team were honking their car horns all of downtown Yerevan and exclaiming all kinds of expressions of victory. In a word, the boys of our team yesterday granted a real holiday to Armenian people and this happened not as a result of coincidence but as a result of a quality game. So now the Armenian team has 17 points. So do Ireland and Russia. The spectacular victory keeps Armenia’s chances alive for qualifying from their Group B that also includes the teams of Russia, the Republic of Ireland, Slovakia and Andorra. Armenia now needs a win when they travel to Dublin to play against the...

September 10, 2011
The Armenian national football team beat Slovakia 4-0 in the Euro 2012 Group B qualifier match on Tuesday. Yura Movsisyan netted in the 57th minute after the Slovak defense failed to clear a corner kick for his fourth international goal. Henrik Mkhitaryan added the second with a low, long-range shot in the 70th that took Slovak goalkeeper Jan Mucha by surprise, The Associated Press reported. With the Slovaks desperately attacking, the visitors focused on quick counterattacks. Gevorg Ghazaryan scored 10 minutes before the end and substitute Artur Sarkisov finished the Slovaks off in injury time. When speaking to tert.am the RA soccer federation chairman Ruben Hairapetyan said, “We currently have a team, which is able to reach its goals and objectives. All the success was possible to big efforts as well as the high-level full attention of the society.” Hairapetyan told that President Serzh Sargsyan was the first to call and congratulate on the victory. “The President said that I should tell the...
While waiting for the final
July 13, 2010
Only in one day the world will have a new champion – Spain and Holland. Who will be able to conquer the title, which the Dutch have been close two twice and Spain - never? The answers to all the questions will be there the upcoming Sunday. Prior to that it wouldn’t be too bad to speak about the history of the two teams. Spain No matter how surprising it would be but for this soccer super-state this is merely the first final. The previous best result of entering the semi-final was registered in 1950. Despite the fact that ever since the Spaniards have always been considered favorites they always failed to become world cup winners. This time everything is going to be different. They deserve the right to become winners. Holland This small country even with European standards is a real soccer giant. Unlike the opponent the Dutch have gained the world cup twice – in 1974 and 1978 and have twice lost to the host of the filed with a minimum score. The third try may be become victorious. The opponent...
Abraham refused from the show
April 17, 2010
After his recent defeat on the professional ring Armenian boxer Arthur Abraham sustained a "crushing defeat" on the dance floor. Abraham participated in the show Let's Dance organized by RTL TV. During the dance Arthur fell down and received the lowest scores by the jury. Although the results of the poll enabled Arthur to participate in the next round, he declined the opportunity. "I am surprised that this failure coincided with my first defeat in the ring. Anyway, I enjoyed the show," said the boxer. “In order to participate in the show I had to practice from 3-4 hours. Now I don’t have that much energy. I should focus on my boxing career,” he...

Bookmakers are sad
September 10, 2011
According to our information the RA soccer team has rejoiced everyone but the local bookmakers. The domestic bookmakers initially didn’t believe in the victory of the Armenian team and have defined coefficient 8 for the Armenian victory. Unlike the expected outcome having guided by not so much professional judgment but emotions, made their bets on Armenia as a result of which the coefficient dropped to 60. However, despite this fact immense bets were made on Armenia. As a result the fans won both morally and financially....

The most absurd decision
June 28, 2007
The UEFA executive committee made perhaps the most absurd decision possible for the selection stage of the Armenia-Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan-Armenia games for “Euro 2008”. The problem arose when it came time to discuss where to hold the games. The Armenian side had declared that it was ready to play in Baku and receive the Azerbaijani team in Yerevan, guaranteeing their safety. However, Azerbaijan claims that it is not ready to visit Yerevan, and that it cannot guarantee the safety of the Armenian football players in Baku. The issue concerning the conduct of the games in a neutral field was under discussion, however, in the end, the UEFA executive committee decided that the games would not take place and each team would get 0 points “in their favor”. The correspondents of the Armenian Football Federation have already declared that they are not going to protest the decision of UEFA. “The Armenian Football Federation and the Government of Armenia did everything they could to have...
Aronyan’s first victory
May 8, 2007
The opening ceremony of the unofficial chess match between Levon Aronyan and Vladimir Kramnik took place on Friday at the Opera and Ballet Theatre. It was obviously interesting for chess fans, yet many were not even able to be present during the opening ceremony with the participation of Armenian Prime Minister and President of the Chess Federation of Armenia Serge Sargsyan, President of FIDE Kirsan Iliuzhinov, President of Nagorno-Karabagh Arkadi Ghukasyan, and others. Before the opening ceremony, there was a short film presentation about Armenian chess and the history of the chess competitors. Then Serge Sargsyan made a speech, mentioning that although the match is unofficial, the duel of the two greats will please chess fans. Kirsan Iliuzhinov also made a speech and apologized for speaking in Russian. “I have not learned Armenian yet, but I think that it is time to learn because Armenian chess is winning all the gold medals.” Iliuzhinov recalled that world champion Vladimir Kramnik was declared...
